Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will there be varied price structure for frequent travelers?
Yes, we will be looking at Group rates, Conference Rates, Student, Children and Senior Special fares and Value Packs for frequent travelers.
2. Is there a possibility of a route to Nanaimo?
Yes, if there is sufficient support for the route and we believe there is, then our 3rd ferry could begin to service this route.
3. Is there a danger from Deadheads/floatsam?
Yes, there is always a danger of deadheads while traveling on the ocean, especially at higher speeds, however, the Surface Effect Ship (SES) technology has a very low hull signature in the water and the DNV classed vessels are designed for impacting submerged steel containers.
4. How will the fast ferries handle rough seas?
The SES ships have been thoroughly tested in the North Sea in Europe and have crossed the Atlantic Ocean. The SES technology does not allow for the typical porpoising associated with catamaran hulls, and therefore will provide one of the smoothest rides available
5. What type of fuel will the ferry use?
The ferries will be using primarily LNG (liquid natural gas) and have the capability of using bio-diesel or standard diesel fuel oils. The LNG fuel has no Sulphur, low traces of Nitrous Oxide and because of the Gas turbine engines will be producing less than 10% carbon verses 90% for conventional diesel driven piston engines.
6. What technology will the ships use?
The ships will be using surface effect ship (SES) hulls and be likened to a hybrid hovercraft/catamaran. SES ships produce little if no wake due the design and function of the air cushion mutli-hulls.
7. Will the terminals and ferry's be wheelchair accessible?
Wheelchair access will meet existing regulation requirements.
8. Will you be offering later trip times to accommodate special events?
Yes, since the vessels are not restricted to daylight hours, we are planning to offer modified schedules to include later trips that would run in conjunction with various events such as concerts and sporting events in both cities.
